City of Offenbach

Symphony of flavors

Sound tastes good, champagne sounds good

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2023
Start of concert: 5 pm

Are masterpieces from the kitchen and cellar art? Art, like that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Thomas Mann or Gerhard Richter? "It's not about going out for a fancy meal where it tastes delicious, it's about creativity [...] like going to the opera or a concert. What opera is for the eyes and ears, this kind of cuisine is for the taste buds." This is what director Melanie Liebheit says in the margin of her documentary "She Chef" about the young world champion chef Agnes Karrasch.

In this program, we combine music and cuisine in an extremely appealing way. Of course: there are wonderful homages from classical music, such as the "Champagne Finale" from Johann Strauss' "Fledermaus." Or Giuseppe Verdi's aria "La donna e mobile", which has been hijacked by the chocolate confectionery to the Italian product line of a German food company. Incidentally, such things also exist without an advertising context - Leonard Bernstein wrote his little hymn "Pflaum's Prelude" to the legendary Pflaums Posthotel Pegnitz and its Michelin-starred cuisine in Upper Franconia.

We talked to experts such as the author and gourmet critic Jürgen Dollase - and also serve you a first-class team. Manolito Mario Franz is an enormously versatile tenor and was a member of the ensemble at the Bavarian State Opera. Lydia Maria Bader, whom the neue musikzeitung calls "one of Germany's leading pianists", lives in Offenbach and is very present in Chinese concert life, among other things. And Niklas Benjamin Hoffmann not only conducts this concert, he also composes on our quest to find out what champagne sounds like and what Rossini tastes like.
