Urban garden project launched in Nordend

19.01.2017 – Before the end of the old year, a fresh bed was planted on Goetheplatz, right outside the doors of the Nordend district office. It is the foundation stone of an urban garden project launched by the "Besser leben in Offenbach" project together with the city's neighborhood management.

Similar to the Rolandgärten in the Senefelder Quartier, the concept is deliberately kept open: Urban gardeners can contact the Nordend district office if they are interested and plant the area as a kitchen garden as they please. The idea is to create a whole series of small kitchen gardens in Nordend in the future.

On the area of the future bed in front of the Nordend district office, the old planting was first removed and the raised bed filled with fresh topsoil. An apple tree of the old "Goldparmäne" variety was planted in the middle of the newly reclaimed planting area. In addition, pupils from the neighboring Goethe School have already planted the bulbs of spring-flowering plants for the coming season. With the first rays of sunshine in spring, small accents of color should whet the appetite for the new gardening season. With spring-like temperatures, the small urban garden project can then be started immediately and a small kitchen garden can be created in the middle of the Nordend.
