GBO plans 40 new apartments at two locations
30.01.2026 – The business plan of Stadtwerke Offenbach subsidiary GBO Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft mbH Offenbach includes an extensive list of new construction projects. The first two projects are to be started this year: The municipal housing association has now received a funding commitment from the state of Hesse for a new building in a redensification in Liebigstrasse and two new buildings on a plot of land in Dr. Rosa-Goldschmidt-Strasse.
"This is good news for Offenbach," says City Treasurer and GBO Supervisory Board Chairman Martin Wilhelm. "The two new construction projects are the first projects from the GBO's 150 million euro investment plan for the next five years to be implemented. Almost 40 new subsidized apartments for people on low incomes will be built at these two locations alone."
In Liebigstrasse, a new building is planned on a GBO-owned plot between three existing buildings, which - if the corresponding approval is granted - will offer around 15 apartments on five floors. Funding of 3.6 million euros has been reserved for this. Two new buildings are to be built on a plot of land on Dr. Rosa-Goldschmidt-Straße, which will contain around 24 apartments depending on the layout. Funding of around 5.8 million euros has been reserved for this construction project.
Both buildings are to be constructed using prefabricated timber hybrid modules. GBO has already built houses using this construction method in Taunusstraße, Brandenburger Straße and the Franz-Liszt-Quartier. Not only do they have the advantage of being built with the renewable building material wood, which ensures a very pleasant indoor climate - the construction time is also significantly shorter than with conventional construction methods. This is particularly important for the residents of the existing buildings in Liebigstrasse. The two construction projects will take around two years to complete. The construction work itself is estimated to take just nine months. Thanks to the modular components, significantly less material needs to be stored on the construction site itself, there is less construction noise, less dirt and fewer construction vehicles driving to and from the site
Boris Kupke and René Weber, both Managing Directors of Stadtwerke subsidiary GBO, were delighted that funding has been pledged for both construction projects. "It's commitments like this that make the construction of new apartments possible in the first place. And even with this financial support, we can only do this because the plots of land belong to GBO and therefore the purchase price does not apply."
Together with City Treasurer Martin Wilhelm, GBO presented its 150 million euro business plan to the public in December 2025. Over the next five years, this money will flow into the construction of new apartments as well as energy-efficient renovations and modernization of existing properties.
