Training as a real estate agent

Giving people a home is the job of real estate agents. At Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft mbH Offenbach (GBO), trainees get to know the full breadth of the profession.

Those who complete their training at GBO learn how to negotiate with interested parties, what to look out for when concluding rental agreements and how to manage complaints. The job description also includes technical aspects: How to interpret a development plan and how to prepare the tender for a construction project.

Requirement profile

Secondary school leaving certificate with good grades in math and German. IT skills are an advantage. A recruitment test is not required at GBO, but applicants should demonstrate an open-minded approach to dealing with people in a personal interview.

Duration of training

The training period is normally 3 years. With a grade point average of better than 2.5, a reduction to 2.5 years is possible.

Course of training

Training takes place in the dual system. Trainees learn the theoretical material at the Hans Böckler vocational school in Frankfurt am Main, where lessons take place alternately once or twice a week. The practical skills are taught in the company.

GBO offers its trainees the opportunity to take part in external training courses. A one-week course is offered by the Association of the Southwest German Housing Industry to prepare for exams. In the company, the trainees pass through various departments. Stations include reception, tenant support from A-Z and financial accounting. Vocational school subjects include accounting and economics as well as tenancy law and real estate transactions. Knowledge of construction preparation and processing is also taught.

Examinations

An intermediate examination takes place halfway through the apprenticeship. It provides an overview of the trainee's current level of knowledge and points out any gaps in training. At the end of the apprenticeship, a written and oral examination must be taken before the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
