Sport and leisure
The wind of change is blowing at Offenbach harbor. An inspiring urban district is being created on the former industrial site for people who want to live in a creative and future-oriented way. With one of the most ambitious urban development projects in the Rhine-Main region, OPG Offenbacher Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH is creating plenty of space for innovative ideas that are already filling the area on the waterfront with urban life.
Blue crane
The 26-metre-high Blue Crane, originally opened in 1902, towers as a landmark of the city of Offenbach in the harbour district. The industrial monument from the time of the old port was transformed into a walk-on viewing platform in 2017 and is open to the public. Visitors can climb up to the 9-metre-high platform via an elongated staircase that resembles a crane jib; from there, they can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the harbour district all the way to the Frankfurt skyline. The Blue Crane is located directly on the Main Cycle Path and is an ideal stopover for cyclists and walkers.
Boxing hall
Hobby boxers can train at Boxclub Nordend Offenbach e.V. (opens in a new tab) in the hall at the harbor. The boxing club has its roots in a project that was launched in 2003 by social worker Wolfgang Malik and licensed boxing trainer Bernd Hackfort at the Nordend youth center. The aim was to create an integration and inclusion-promoting space for teenagers and young adults, which made an alcohol and drug-free life a prerequisite for participation. The boxing club has since become a multi-award-winning institution, including the Hessian Addiction Prevention Award and the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance Award. Today, boxers from all over the Rhine-Main region come to train at the boxing club.
Harbor garden
Soil, seeds, a watering can, fresh water and good weather: that's all you need to create little oases in no time at all. The harbour garden (opens in a new tab) project provides around 10,600 square meters of space where you can garden to your heart's content in boxes, sacks, cans and other containers.
The idea of urban gardening has been implemented in the harbor garden in Offenbach for ten years. What was created in 2013 as an interim use to revitalize the former industrial wasteland has now grown into a green world of its own in the middle of a lively residential area.
Water sports on the Main
If you like outdoor sports, the harbor is the right place for you. Water sports enthusiasts can get to know Offenbach Harbour and its surroundings from the water with stand-up paddling (SUP). MAIN-SUP (opens in a new tab) offers guided tours on the Main and also rents out equipment to those who prefer to paddle on their own. Numerous water sports clubs have established themselves along the harbor.
Harbor playground
The newly designed harbor playground awaits children and families in Gutsche Park, offering exciting play opportunities for young and old. The centerpiece of the playground is the large water play area with an exciting experiment facility. Here, children can explore the element of water to their heart's content and enjoy a refreshing dip on hot days. Numerous seating areas and an impressive metal pergola, reminiscent of the port's industrial past, invite you to linger.
Cycling on the Main
Two cycle paths run through the middle of the port area in Offenbach: the Main Cycle Path and the Hessian Long-Distance Cycle Path.
The Hessian long -distance cycle route R3 is one of nine long-distance cycle routes in Hesse. It runs around 250 kilometers right across Hesse. The varied tour begins in Rüdesheim am Rhein, leads to St. Boniface's Cathedral in Fulda and ends at the market square in Tann in the Rhön.
The Frankfurt - Gelnhausen stage of the R3 route (length 52 km; inclines 143 meters in altitude) runs along the southern bank of the Main, past the monument to the artist Hans Traxler and the Gerbermühle, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once stayed, before the cycle path reaches the port of Offenbach after around seven kilometers. From there, the route leads to the banks of the Main in Offenbach, in the immediate vicinity of which are the Büsing Park with the neo-baroque Büsing Palace and the Lili Temple. After the Offenbacher Mainbogen, the urban landscape merges into the natural landscape of the banks of the Main. After around seven kilometers, the route reaches the port of Rumpenheim with its castle built under the rule of the County of Hanau in the 16th century.

Port 2
Hafen 2 (opens in a new tab) discovered the new shore first. The experimental combination of café and club, pub, cinema and art gallery, live stage and sunbathing lawn has achieved cult status. Initially intended for temporary use, the cultural center has long since been given a permanent home at the western entrance to the harbor on Goethering. Many citizens donated to the move, the city-owned Hafengrundstücksgesellschaft provided the new premises - and together they laid the foundations for cultural exchange and modern civic engagement in Offenbach.
Yoga on the harbor steps
Over 100 participants have spread out their yoga mats in the direction of the harbor basin and let the evening sun shine on their faces as they perform the sun salutation. Once a year, the yoga studio Samana Yoga (opens in a new tab) - Rebalancing Life and the magazine Mut Liebe organize the yoga event "108 Sun Salutations on the Harbour Steps" and invite anyone interested to take part.
