History of the Stadthalle
Experiencing legendary rock musicians live in Offenbach - that used to be almost an everyday occurrence. Whether Jimi Hendrix or The Who, Genesis and Frank Zappa, U2 or Lou Reed, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd: they and many more swept across the stage of Offenbach's Stadthalle in the 1960s to 80s.
The building, which opened in May 1966, was one of the first venues in the Rhine-Main region that was suitable for such mass events. In 2016, the "Home of Rock'n'Roll" celebrated its 50th birthday and, like many a jubilarian at this age, looked back on its wild years.
To celebrate the anniversary, the party "50 years of beatbeatbeat - 50 years of Stadthalle Offenbach" was held on October 15, 2016. At the same time, an impressive exhibition was on display in the hall's new foyer, with old posters and tickets, guest book entries and stage directions reminiscing about the legendary times. This page also takes a look back at the eventful history of the hall. Unless otherwise stated, the photos on the special "50 years of Stadthalle Offenbach" pages were taken from the city archives of the City of Offenbach and the archives of the Offenbach-Post.
The special newspaper "50 years of Stadthalle Offenbach" was also produced for the anniversary and can be downloaded here as a PDF:
