City of Offenbach

Barrier-free stops

In order to provide access to public transport for people with walking or visual impairments as well as older people, more than 90 percent of stops in the city have now been made barrier-free.

The low-floor technology of the buses makes it easy to board at the bus stops

What are the characteristics of barrier-free stops?

A raised kerb at the bus stops, in combination with the automatic lowering system of the buses, makes boarding easy.

Barrier-free stops are equipped with a guiding strip for the blind set into the pavement parallel to the kerb, which stands out from the surrounding area of the bus stop floor both in terms of color and its ribbed structure.

In addition, these stops are equipped with a so-called "attention field", which is laid out at right angles to the roadway. The attention field stands out in color from the rest of the bus stop floor and is always positioned in the area of the front bus door. The vehicles therefore stop at the height of the attention field, so that passengers can board quickly without having to walk long distances.

Which stops have already been converted?

Most stops in Offenbach are now barrier-free. Barrier-free stops are marked with a wheelchair symbol on the public transport map.
