City of Offenbach

Accessibility in vehicles

OVB's vehicle fleet is equipped with various components that enable people with restricted mobility to travel by bus in Offenbach.

Low-floor technology
OVB has equipped its entire bus fleet - both the diesel buses and the new electric buses - with low-floor technology, which allows drivers to lower the sides of the bus at bus stops to the level of the sidewalk and thus provide almost ground-level access. This enables OVB to make it easier for older and disabled people in particular to use Offenbach's city buses.

Note: As this technology is operated manually by the driver, please contact the driver and ask him or her to lower the bus. To do this, however, the doors must first be closed again, then the bus is lowered, the door opens again and you can board.

Wheelchair users and people with walking aids can board the bus more easily using a ramp.

Ramp
Wheelchair users and people with walking aids can board the bus more easily using a ramp. If the bus is too far from the kerb, ask the driver to fold out the ramp.

Grooved handrails and buttons with a profile
Visually impaired people can get off the bus more easily by using grooved handrails near the door. The surface of the grab rails is normally smooth, but on the doors they have a grooved surface so that the difference is clearly noticeable. The buttons for the stop request also have a profile so that they are easier to feel.

Special boarding and alighting buttons
If passengers are unable to walk quickly for health reasons, they have the option of pressing the blue boarding button on the rear doors to "block" the doors when they are open so that they do not close prematurely if the passenger has not yet boarded. The same buttons are also located in the vehicles. If passengers have a stop request, we recommend pressing this button before stopping so that the driver knows to open the doors without an automatic closing mechanism. If the button is not pressed before alighting, passengers do not need to worry about being trapped in the door, as all doors have a light barrier that prevents automatic closing as soon as a person or object is between the doors.
