City of Offenbach

Offenbach's Lord Mayor goes electric - Horst Schneider is now also an eMiO pioneer

eMiO project manager Janine Mielzarek, project manager of the Rhine-Main model region Anja Georgi and Sales Director Cars Rhine-Main at Daimler AG Burkhard Wagner hand over the Mercedes B-Class 250 to Lord Mayor Horst Schneider in front of Offenbach Town Hall.

Mayor Horst Schneider is now also driving an environmentally friendly and quiet eMiO company car. From now on, a Mercedes B-Class 250 with the eye-catching white and green livery of the eMiO project, Electromobility in Offenbach, will be used as the magistrate's official car. Horst Schneider Offenbach is thus sending out a clear signal and establishing electromobile vehicle operation in the municipal administration. After a Mercedes A-Class E-Cell, this is the second electric company car for the Offenbach City Council. Back in 2011, Offenbach was one of the first municipalities in Germany where politicians and civil servants were using electric vehicles.

After the old leasing contract expired, fellow mayor Peter Schneider proposed the purchase of an eMiO vehicle to the council. The eMiO - Electromobility in Offenbach pilot project has been using electrically powered vehicles since 2013, primarily at commercial companies, thus giving an important boost to innovative drive technology. The city of Offenbach takes the issue of climate protection very seriously. Environmentally friendly vehicle technology is part of the city's climate protection concept and integrated into the catalog of measures for air pollution control. Electromobility is an important component of sustainable urban development, to which the eMiO movement makes an important contribution. With the purchase of an eMiO vehicle, the city council is taking on a clearly visible role model function on the city's streets.

Lord Mayor Horst Schneider sees climate-friendly electromobility in Offenbach on the right track, also in conjunction with the green electricity used here: "The eMiO project demonstrates Offenbach's great potential as a location for future-proof and sustainable technologies. There are now 73 electric vehicles registered in Offenbach. This is a very positive development that is not only impressive in the Rhine-Main region."

eMiO project - electric mobility in Offenbach

"eMiO - Electromobility in Offenbach" is a project within the framework of the Rhine-Main Electromobility Model Region and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) under the supra-regional coordination of NOW Nationale Organisation Wasserstoff- und Brennstoffzellentechnologie GmbH.

As part of the eMiO project, SOH has been renting out electric cars to companies in Offenbach for two years, providing important impetus to get environmentally friendly drive technology on the road. Regardless of whether it is a care service, law firm, craft business or other commercial enterprise: eMiO vehicles are available to all companies and their vehicle fleets.

Thanks to funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport, the municipal utilities can bundle rental and vehicle service into an extremely cost-effective package. Companies can choose between different types of vehicle and are thus not only inexpensive and environmentally friendly, but also effective in terms of advertising. All electric cars are attractively designed and leave enough space for users to advertise themselves.

The target set in 2013 of renting out 40 electric vehicles, primarily to commercial customers, has now been achieved. With this positive result, the marketing of environmentally friendly drive technology as part of the innovative pilot project "eMiO - Electromobility in Offenbach" can be completed.
