New memorial garden at the New Cemetery
Another flowering garden of remembrance will be created at the New Cemetery in Offenbach by August 2019. In the memorial garden, relatives can commemorate the deceased without having to worry about the costly grave maintenance.
Interest in such garden-managed graves in Offenbach is growing: there are almost no free spaces left in the first Memoriam Garden at the New Cemetery or in the corresponding field in Rumpenheim. For this reason, the administration of the municipal cemeteries from the Stadtservice business field of the Stadtwerke Group, in cooperation with the Treuhandstelle Hessen-Thüringen, has designated a further 1,400 square meter area at the mourning hall for this form of burial. The path construction work has been completed, now it's time for the design.
A place of remembrance and encounter
"We want to create a special place of remembrance and encounter here," says Gabriele Schreiber, head of the municipal cemeteries in Offenbach. In addition to the cremation graves and, for the first time, burial grounds, a water element and a sand dune with grasses are planned. From August, an insect hotel and a large swing will invite visitors to linger, and there will also be space for cultural events.
Stonemasons and cemetery gardeners in Offenbach have formed a working group (ARGE) to plant and maintain the Memoriam Garden. It distributes the work and the risk, bundles know-how and increases the services. The customer signs a one-off contract and in return receives a grave stele with inscription and professional grave maintenance. This leaves more time to remember the deceased in silence or in conversation.
