GaLa trainees help shape the future
Greening the city and making it blossom: This is currently the responsibility of 74 Stadtwerke Offenbach gardeners. Their work in the fresh air is varied: they design and maintain parks, green strips and green spaces on streets, in housing developments and at other public or commercial facilities. They plant and dig, build walls and seating areas, install irrigation systems and select the right greenery for a project.
Stadtservice and GBM Service GmbH of Stadtwerke currently employ four trainees in the field of gardening and landscaping (GaLa), three of whom helped to create the plant trail at the new cemetery. Their training is based on the dual system: they attend a vocational school in Hanau in block lessons and otherwise get to know the practical connections and activities as well as the in-house workshop with all the work equipment. The trainees learn how to read construction plans and lay paving stones, gravel paths and ponds. Creativity is expressly encouraged. The topic of sustainability is not only gaining importance in the selection of insect-friendly plants: it is also about how roofs and facades in the city can be greened. The trainees are rewarded, as is now the case at the cemetery, with a piece of successful urban design, spatial greening or garden art that people enjoy every day. GaLa trainees are also being sought for the new training year starting in August 2025. More information and contact details can be found here:
