Campaign "Germany separates. You too?" promotes recycling

31.05.2024 – An empty yoghurt pot has served its original purpose, but can be given a second chance: If you dispose of the plastic container correctly in the yellow bag or garbage can, it will be sent to a recycling plant. There it is melted down and becomes the raw material for a new product. To ensure that Offenbach residents dispose of as much of their packaging as possible separately from other waste, Stadtwerke Offenbach's resource and waste advisory service is now a partner in the nationwide campaign "Deutschland trennt. You too?"

Local authorities throughout Germany are working together with the dual systems and their "Waste separation works" initiative, retailers and the waste and disposal industry to provide information on how to separate waste correctly. The patron is Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke.

On Saturday, June 1, the campaign will start in Offenbach in the Ringcenter with an information stand run by the Resource and Waste Advisory Service. There, citizens can ask questions about correct waste disposal and waste separation. During the campaign period until June 15, giant packaging such as yoghurt pots or tins and information stands will motivate people to dispose of packaging waste separately. During the campaign period, the three-metre-high packaging will be placed in Senefelder Park, on Hafenplatz and at the playground in Mathildenstraße.

If our citizens separate and dispose of used packaging correctly, we as a municipality can make an important contribution to climate and environmental protection. We want to contribute to this with Stadtservice as a municipal waste disposal company as a partner of the 'Deutschland trennt. You too?

"The so-called mis-throws in the yellow bag or the yellow garbage can, such as food waste, used diapers or batteries, can prevent the recycling of used packaging," adds Christine Herkströter, Head of Resource and Waste Consulting at Stadtwerke Offenbach. Over the next two weeks, she and her team will be answering citizens' questions about correct waste separation at other information stands around the city.

Simon Isser appears as a separation ambassador

As a separation ambassador for the "Deutschland trennt. Simon Isser, known to many Offenbach residents as chairman of the Elmar theater club, his involvement on the board of the children's and youth farm and in the Offenbach carnival association, will be appearing as an ambassador for the "Germany separates" campaign. He can be seen on posters and at information stands. The stadium announcer from Bieberer Berg, Olaf Kruse, can be heard in radio spots. The "Waste separation works" initiative is accompanying the campaign weeks with a nationwide advertising and social media campaign. The citizens themselves can also show their face. With a selfie in front of the XXL packaging and the hashtag #wertrenntgewinnt, they can take part in the nationwide social media competition of "Deutschland trennt. You too?" competition.

The idea for the largest partner campaign to date for correct waste separation comes from "Mülltrennung wirkt", an initiative of the dual systems. With this joint campaign, the companies and institutions involved in the packaging recycling value chain want to promote more collected packaging, efficient recycling and therefore an even more sustainable circular economy for packaging in Germany.
