Mühlheimer Straße: Last test of patience for road users
27.03.2025 – Drivers will need to be patient again in the weeks around Easter if they want to pass Mühlheimer Straße. This is when the mammoth sewer renewal project in Offenbach will be finally completed. Since 2007, the new development areas have been connected to the Offenbach network on behalf of Stadtwerke Offenbach's Stadtservice in order to be able to transport their wastewater to the sewage treatment plant in Frankfurt.
Many construction phases, during which pipes with a diameter of around two meters were laid over a total length of six kilometers, detour, one-way traffic routes and, unfortunately, traffic jams later, the last sewer pipe has now been sunk in Mühlheimer Straße, thus closing the gap to the collector sewer on the Main.
Finally, the traces left on the asphalt by the underground construction project must now be removed. This will also involve repairing any damage that has not been repaired recently due to the upcoming sewer work. Slotted channels were already installed in mid-March to drain the roadway before the asphalt was laid.
Work will be carried out in four construction phases
Work will start on Monday, March 31. A working week of five working days is planned for each of the four construction phases. The Easter holidays will be added to the four weeks of construction work so that the work is expected to be completed by the end of April/beginning of May. The planning has included the Easter vacations because a lower volume of traffic is to be expected.
Asphalt will be laid between the junction with Kettelerstrasse and Karl-Herdt-Weg. One side of the road will be asphalted for half of the total distance, while the other side will be available to traffic with one lane for each direction. The first construction section runs towards the city center between Karl-Herdt-Weg and Danziger Straße, the second in the opposite direction. Construction sections three and four begin at Danziger Straße and extend a little beyond the junction with Ketteler Straße on Mühlheimer Straße. Construction phase three will also begin here in the direction of the city center.
During the respective construction phases, the access roads from the side streets will be closed and detours will be signposted.
