Consultant against flooded basements: Mehmet Terzi has been working for Stadtwerke for 25 years
31.01.2025 – Many Offenbach residents have wished they had spoken to Mehmet Terzi or listened to his advice when water has sloshed through the basement of their own home. He has been a technical employee at Stadtwerke Offenbach for 25 years, including around 20 years at Stadtservice, where he was responsible for property drainage.
Here, he has ensured that the wastewater and rainwater from countless privately owned buildings flows into Frankfurt's sewage treatment plant via a connection to the municipal sewer network. To do this, the homeowner must be advised and the connection installed. However, property drainage also includes informing the owners of the backflow protection. "We have to have the connections laid on the basis of the law, but we also want to protect private assets with our advice - both are our tasks in the civil engineering department," says Mehmet Terzi.
When he moved from the private sector to the drainage department at the former ESO Dienstleistungsgesellschaft 25 years ago, he was attracted by the task of independently developing the drainage of private households. "I had a free hand here and I liked it," says the jubilarian, "and that's still the case today. Stadtwerke is a good employer, the job is secure and it was always very informal in our department. I also liked dealing with the citizens." This interaction was not always easy, as the house connections also cost money. But when the cellars stayed dry after a good consultation, even after a heavy downpour, many people thanked him afterwards.
