More cleanliness for Nordend
31.10.2025 – Another major clean-up in public spaces is on the agenda: In the last week of October, Bettinastrasse was thoroughly cleaned by Stadtwerke Offenbach's Stadtservice. So far this year, ten streets have been cleaned from wall to wall, with up to five more to follow if the weather is suitable, including Andréstrasse, which is also located in Nordend.
For wall-to-wall cleaning, parking is prohibited so that the street cleaning staff can also clean the otherwise blocked and therefore inaccessible gutters and gullies. In addition, the roadside greenery is maintained and soil is filled in.
Particularly high utilization pressure in Nordend
The fact that Bettinastrasse was now on the agenda was a good coincidence. Because just like the crumpled packaging and empty glass bottles blowing around in the bushes, there is currently increasing dissatisfaction among citizens in Nordend with the cleanliness of public spaces. Stadtwerke Offenbach's Stadtservice department is receiving a correspondingly high number of complaints about street cleaning. However, while in other parts of the city, cleaning tours have had to be canceled or restricted from time to time in recent weeks due to illness in the team or a defective sweeper, cleaning in Nordend has been almost continuous.
"We have particularly high usage pressure on the streets in Nordend, which means that a lot of people are out and about here every day," says Christian Loose, deputy head of ESO Eigenbetrieb der Stadt Offenbach kommunale Dienstleistungen. "We are also seeing this more and more on the streets. Our street sweepers have always had the problem that the streets are parked up almost every day, making it difficult to reach the gutters and gullies. However, according to the regular observations of our quality control department, the streets are very quickly dirty again after each cleaning. As our previous cleaning effort is clearly no longer sufficient, we have now made adjustments and will continue to do so." An additional employee has already been added to the regular cleaning tour. In addition, another Stadtservice employee will initially use a Glutton vacuum cleaner to remove hard-to-reach waste.
Round table with residents on Monday, November 3
City treasurer and responsible department head Martin Wilhelm knows that the issue of cleanliness is important to many citizens. "The concept of wall-to-wall cleaning is a good solution for effectively tackling problem areas. The zones, which are closed to parked cars for a short period of time for the measure, receive a thorough cleaning that is not possible in everyday large-scale operations. This will ultimately benefit passers-by and residents."
The Stadtservice departments are also in contact with the neighborhood management in Nordend. This regularly invites residents to a round table to discuss measures to improve the neighborhood. At the next meeting on Monday, November 3, at 5 p.m. in the Schillerschule, Christan Loose will also take part on behalf of ESO Eigenbetrieb and talk to residents.
