New Asphalt for Bike Lanes
13.08.2026 – Cyclists can now ride more comfortably on two routes within the city: This year, the Stadtservice of Stadtwerke Offenbach had the sidewalks and bike paths along An der Klingenstraße, as well as the connection between Hergenröderweg and Bert-Brecht-Straße, renovated.
The repairs were funded from the annual budget for the maintenance of municipal infrastructure. The Stadtservice Department has approximately 1.6 million euros (gross) available for this purpose, which is invested in roads, sidewalks, bike paths, and bridges, among other things.
“Well-maintained and safe paths are essential for ensuring that people can get around Offenbach comfortably and safely on foot or by bike. By renovating these two bike paths, we are making a targeted investment in the existing infrastructure and ensuring its long-term quality,” says City Councilmember and Head of the relevant department Martin Wilhelm. He got a firsthand look at the condition of the paths during an on-site visit, to which he arrived by bike. There, he spoke with Gabriele Weirauch, deputy head of the Civil Engineering Department at Stadtservice, a division of Stadtwerke Offenbach, and Alexander Bartenstein from the Civil Engineering Department about further planned repairs to the pedestrian and bike path network.
On Klingenstraße, the pedestrian and bike path was resurfaced with new asphalt over an area of 3,327 square meters. The roadwork extended from Bischofsheimer Weg to Mainzer Ring.
The bike path along the extension of Bert-Brecht-Straße toward Hergenröderweg was also extensively repaired. The asphalt was completely replaced over an area of approximately 1,600 square meters.
The road maintenance crews from Stadtservice also regularly inspect Offenbach’s network of bike paths. Residents can report damage via the defect reporting system at www.offenbach.de/maengelmelder (opens in a new tab). This allows necessary repairs to be scheduled according to priority.
