14,000 square meters of road renewed

15.06.2023 – The asphalt on 14,000 square meters of municipal roads was renewed this year by Stadtwerke Offenbach. The Stadtservice's civil engineering department spent 1.1 million euros gross on the work, which involved laying around 4,000 tons of asphalt in total, divided between the surface course and the binder course underneath.

Head of Department Martin Wilhelm in conversation with Melanie Gessner, Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Stadtservice, about the process of renovating a dilapidated roadway.

City Treasurer and responsible department head Martin Wilhelm took a final look at the renovation work carried out by Stadtservice in Heusenstammer Weg. "We know that further work is desirable. However, as only limited budget funds are available, we must continue to set priorities here. The Civil Engineering Department, which is commissioning the asphalt work, is taking a very efficient approach here and using the money to achieve the best possible result for all road users."

The priority is determined by the civil engineering department of Stadtwerke in a list at the beginning of each year. It is based firstly on the condition of the current road surface, but above all on how many road users and how many different modes of transport use the road.

Civil engineering manager Melanie Gessner used the work on Heusenstammer Weg between Langener Straße and Hölderlinstraße to explain to the department head how the individual work steps are carried out, from milling off the asphalt surface to the delivery of the asphalt and the application of the new road surface. In Heusenstammer Weg, the largest section of road was renewed at 4400 square meters, the next largest section was Bettinastrasse at just under 4000 square meters. In total, part of the road surface was renewed in five streets.
