Too cold for sweepers
29.12.2025 – Sweepers are a great help for Stadtwerke Offenbach's street cleaning operations, but they have one major disadvantage in frosty weather: they need water to work.
This water freezes in sub-zero temperatures, making roads and sidewalks slippery and can ruin the sweepers' motors. For this reason, Stadtservice employees have to clean exclusively with a broom in very cold weather. This takes considerably longer, which can lead to downtime.
If the day starts with frost and the temperatures rise significantly into the plus range during the morning, the sweepers can still be used later in the day. Antifreeze cannot be used in the sweepers as this would cause nozzles and filters to clog.
