City of Offenbach

Maintenance of urban green spaces and trees by Stadtservice

The Stadtwerke Offenbach Stadtservice business field ensures that Offenbach is green and blooming. The employees look after and maintain the city's green spaces and look after the city's trees.

Planting, checking and caring for trees

The tree crew maintains and checks the city's trees at lofty heights.

On behalf of the Office for Urban Planning, Transport and Construction Management, Stadtservice looks after almost 29,000 trees throughout the city that are entered in the city's tree register. This includes over 10,000 street trees as well as trees in municipal green spaces, municipal cemeteries and public playgrounds. Stadtservice is also responsible for planting new trees in public spaces. Newly planted trees receive particularly intensive care for the first three years and are also watered regularly during dry periods.

All trees are checked at regular intervals and inspected for disease, pest infestation, dead wood or rotten parts. If necessary, for example because they are no longer safe for traffic, trees are pruned back. The aim is to preserve the trees in the urban area. Tree felling is therefore only carried out if it cannot be avoided.

Planting and maintaining flower beds

Stadtservice employees plant a perennial bed.

The beds in green spaces and along streets are also created and maintained by Stadtservice employees. When new beds are created, Stadtservice is now increasingly using flowering perennials in the design.

These should not only enhance the cityscape, but also bring more biodiversity into the city and withstand the increasing drought and heat phases. By combining different perennials that bloom at different times, insects can find food in the beds from spring to fall.

Lawn and meadow maintenance

Meadows provide food for insects and are therefore only mowed twice a year.

Stadtservice establishes and maintains lawns and meadows. Lawns are mowed regularly and the grass is kept short. Meadows serve as ecological areas, as the meadow flowers and grasses provide food for insects. For this reason, the grass here is only mowed twice a year - once at the end of June or beginning of July and once in the fall.

Cleanliness in public playgrounds

Sand cleaning on a playground

The Stadtservice's Green Department ensures that public playgrounds are clean: Among other things, it is responsible for cleaning and replacing the sand in the playgrounds. The employees also keep the playgrounds and green spaces free of garbage, mow lawns on playgrounds and take care of trees and shrubs.
