Into professional life: Stadtwerke offers dual study program
22.12.2016 – After graduating from high school, many young people are faced with a choice: study at university or a university of applied sciences or complete an apprenticeship and earn money? The dual Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration offers young people both and combines professional practice with theoretical knowledge from their studies.

The Stadtwerke Offenbach Group has been offering this exciting vocational training model since 2011. With success: all graduates have been taken on so far and are now working in permanent positions for the Stadtwerke Group.
Julius S. is one of the BA students and has been with us since 2017. He is currently writing his Bachelor's thesis. He will finish in summer 2020 and will then have both a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a completed apprenticeship as an office management assistant. "I opted for a dual study program because I value a good balance between theory and practice. It is much easier to develop an understanding of complex topics when the theory you have learned can be put into practice."
As a native of Offenbach, the city is very important to him. "Offenbach is developing. I find it really exciting to experience this up close and even be involved in it."
Diversity included
Melina S. joined in August 2018. The student has already gotten to know several departments and actively supported various projects. She has no regrets that she ended up in Offenbach after graduating from high school: "The Stadtwerke Offenbach Group offers a wide range of training opportunities and I was particularly attracted by the dual study program. I previously worked in a small company, so I really appreciate the fact that I can get to know many different departments here."
In addition to the days at the dual university, the BA students also attend courses for the Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Saturdays to prepare for their intermediate and final exams to become an office management assistant. Melina has already successfully passed the intermediate exam.
Block system combines theory and practice
Philipp K. has already had his Bachelor's degree for two years. Since graduating, he has been working in marketing in corporate communications. He is convinced by the concept of the dual study program: "The block system allows you to concentrate well on the individual content and the work in the company. However, the requirements are high. Applicants should not only have a good A-levels, but also a willingness to work hard, the ability to work in a team, an interest in office and administrative work and good written and spoken communication skills. Students should have a high level of self-motivation, self-management, organizational talent and, above all, a sense of responsibility."
After graduating, Julius will take up a permanent position in Controlling in the Stadtservice Businessfeld. Together with his colleagues, he will be responsible for managing, planning and controlling all areas of the company.
He particularly appreciates the collegial environment and working atmosphere at his workplace.
The results of our own work are visible in the city
Anna B. is also a student at the Group. The 23-year-old doesn't have to worry about starting her career, because as an employee she is already right in the middle of her day-to-day work. She quickly familiarized herself with the tasks of the individual departments: In the secretariat, the focus is on organizational tasks, in the HR department or financial accounting, the students learn about various digital filing systems and in controlling, the students are also allowed to accompany the overall financial statements of the city group. "In just three years, I am able to complete an apprenticeship, study and gain a wide range of professional experience," she summarizes.
"The online presence caught my attention. So much female power at the top and the family-friendliness appealed to me," says Anna. She is currently assigned to the management secretariat, but also actively supports the Corporate Communications Competence Center. "As this is a group of companies, I get to experience the different areas that are responsible for a city in my job. It's great to be involved in shaping the city and to see the results of our work every day."
Even Offenbach's Julius was surprised by the wide range of tasks, activities and challenges that the Group's 1,000 or so employees deal with on a daily basis. Even if the young students only accompany the refuse collectors, janitors, engineers, bus drivers and event experts from their desks, they are still part of the extensive range of services that Stadtwerke provides for the citizens of Offenbach.
