27 trainees have started their apprenticeships at Stadtwerke
14.08.2024 – Stadtwerke Offenbach is committed to finding new trainees every year, advertising the numerous apprenticeships in the Group online, at trade fairs and in schools. This commitment paid off again this year: On August 12, 2024, 11 women and 16 men started their apprenticeship or dual study program.
Stadtwerke 2024 continued to grow with 27 new apprentices, compared to 20 in the previous year and 15 in 2022. "It is important to us to accompany young people on their career path right from the start and to get them excited about Stadtwerke as an employer. In order to be better positioned for the future, we have increased our recruitment efforts in recent years," says Stadtwerke Managing Director Peter Walther. "The Human Resources Competence Center is committed to this, providing information at job fairs, Girls' Day, directly in schools and using various job portals to advertise vacancies at Stadtwerke. This year, almost all positions were successfully filled, with the office management, freight forwarding and logistics services and automotive mechatronics apprenticeships being particularly popular." Three women are starting the dual study program "Business Administration" at Stadtwerke. At the beginning of August, a pupil from the August-Bebel-Schule also started a one-year internship in IT. He is doing the internship to obtain his advanced technical college entrance qualification and is taking part in the trainees' induction days.
The age range of the new trainees is between 16 and 43. In terms of applications, the top occupation this year is office management assistant, closely followed by IT specialist for system integration. A total of over 700 applications for apprenticeships were received. Gerlinde Klos, Head of the HR Competence Center, has a special reason to be pleased: "For the first time ever, an apprentice is starting this year as a personnel services clerk and will support us directly in the HR Competence Center." Apprentices have also been found this year for positions that are difficult to fill, such as in the area of sewer construction.
"We are also very happy about the trainees who come to us on recommendation and because of good experiences: For example, one of our employees' children is starting an apprenticeship in office management and the sister of one of our apprentices is also starting her own apprenticeship with us this year. This shows that many of our employees are so satisfied that they recommend us as an employer to those around them. We also have two trainees who previously completed an internship at Stadtwerke and their impression was so good that they then applied for an apprenticeship," says training manager Jasmin Noll. Part of her job is also to find out more about the applicants' backgrounds and lower the inhibition thresholds for an application. For example, trainees who do not yet speak perfect German can start at Stadtwerke and improve their language skills during their training. A lot is also made possible for parents. One father, for example, joined via the "EliB - Parents in Vocational Preparation" project.
Induction days for the new trainees
To get them in the mood for the new phase of their lives, the trainees from higher years organize three introductory days for the newcomers - a good opportunity to get to know the company structure and make initial contacts with each other. The aim is to make the start of training easier and fun.
On the first day, the older trainees and students introduce the newcomers to the company structure, laptops and other equipment are handed over, and there is also a tour of the Stadion am Bieberer Berg and several games to get to know each other. On the second day, an e-bike tour of all Stadtwerke locations is offered. The third day concludes the induction days with the trainee event: on this day, all trainees from the entire Stadtwerke are present. In the morning, the trainees take part in a workshop with team tasks and a quiz, while laser tag is on the agenda for the afternoon.
