City of Offenbach

Stadtwerke brings light into the dark season

05.12.2025 – Stadtwerke Offenbach continues to invest in the common good. Especially during the Advent season, the company and its employees offer a great deal of support - be it for atmospheric moments in Offenbach or for people who need the most.

Support for the Bieber trade association: Stadtwerke Managing Director Peter Walther (right) handed over the organic fir tree to the association's board members Elfriede Ring and Daniel Wiljotti in the presence of City Treasurer Martin Wilhelm (2nd from left).

The parcels were already piling up at the Stadtwerke headquarters on Senefelder Strasse before the first Advent: almost 180 lovingly filled and colorfully wrapped shoe boxes were collected in November for the Christmas parcel campaign of the Kinderzukunft foundation. At the suggestion of Corporate Communications, numerous employees once again packed presents for children and young people in need. Sandra Vater, Assistant to the Works Council, brought a particularly large number of parcels to the Stadtwerke collection point. Kids e.V.-Förderverein of the Erasmus-Bildungshaus. Stadtwerke Offenbach is supporting the campaign by paying the fees for the parcels and taking the gifts to the foundation's collection point. From there, the gifts will now be taken to Bosnia, Romania and the Ukraine and distributed locally to girls and boys in orphanages, clinics, schools, kindergartens and slums.

"Food and warmth" in former canteen

Even around the festive season, some employees are working for a good cause: Stadtwerke is once again taking part in the "Food and Warmth" campaign. From December 22 to 28, guests in need will receive a warm lunch, drinks and fruit, a packed lunch and appreciation in the former OVB canteen in Hebestrasse. The disused rooms in the Geschäftsfeld Mobilität were specially refurbished in 2023 for the Ecumenical Initiative's offer. The volunteers from Stadtwerke set tables, collect baked goods, make sandwiches and much more. Interpersonal encounters and socializing over a meal are also important. Anyone who is on duty on one of the working days is released from work.

"I am very pleased about this social commitment from our employees," says Stadtwerke Managing Director Peter Walther. "It's important to show solidarity with people in need, especially during the festive season." This also strengthens the team spirit within the company with its Geschäftsfeld Immobilien, Mobilität, Stadtservice and Veranstaltungen.

Organic fir for Bieber

Stadtwerke Offenbach sets atmospheric accents in the cityscape during Advent: they donated to the Treffpunkt Offenbach association to help finance the Christmas lights in the city center and once again made it possible for the Bieber district to have its own Christmas tree. Since the St. Nicholas market on November 29 and into the new year, a stately organic fir tree has once again stood on Ostendplatz. Stadtwerke also financed the delivery and erection by crane: The organic fir comes from a selective felling in the Odenwald and arrived in Offenbach via short transportation routes. "The fact that the Bieber trade association is paying attention to sustainability here convinced us, because this is a very important issue for us," says Peter Walther.

375,000 euros went to local associations and initiatives in 2024

Stadtwerke Offenbach strengthens the community and society in the city throughout the year with donations and sponsorship: in 2024, around 375,000 euros went to local associations and initiatives. For example, the Festival of Lights and the Mainuferfest, the Offenbacher Kickers and the Klingspor Museum receive long-term support. In addition, there are sports clubs that are particularly committed to social and youth work, such as the nationally renowned Boxclub Nordend e. V., the national league judo team JC Samurai Offenbach, the Offenbach Fencing Club and the OFC handball team.

"Through their donation and sponsoring activities, our municipal utilities give back part of their return to the city society," explains Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke. "In this way, we support various areas of public life and show We take joint responsibility for the people of Offenbach - and this goes far beyond traditional public services. We are not just any company - we are Stadtwerke." One of the hallmarks of Stadtwerke's commitment is its consistency over many years. "This is how we can really achieve something in the long term - especially when it comes to the integration efforts of the clubs in our international city," emphasizes Managing Director Walther.

Stadtwerke Offenbach has been supporting the non-profit association VAIR and its activities to promote the "young multicultural Offenbach generation", as the contract states, since 2023. For several years now, Stadtwerke has also sponsored the Joblinge program, which helps unemployed young people enter the world of work. In 2025, the sponsorship agreements with the "Kino kulinarisch" series and the Kickers fan museum were also extended. This year also saw support for the impressive visualization of the former synagogue in the Capitol Theater, which was presented in November. Stadtwerke has supported the creative Capitol Classic Lounge concert series since its inception in the 2006/07 season - its audience favorite, the Christmas concert on the 2nd Advent, is also sold out long in advance in 2025.
