Commitment pays off: Stadtwerke welcomes 20 new trainees
21.08.2023 – "Offenbach needs your talents!" With this slogan, Stadtwerke has stepped up its efforts to recruit potential trainees in recent months. With success: 20 young people, five more than in the previous year, started their training at the municipal group on August 15, 2023.
"We have significantly increased our recruitment efforts in order to better position ourselves for the future," says Stadtwerke Managing Director Peter Walther. "As a result, we were able to recruit two female trainees for our IT department for the first time. In addition, we are once again taking on two children of employees in our large Stadtwerke Offenbach family as well as the brother of a third-year apprentice, which I am particularly pleased about: this is how we are building the future together with several generations."
Increased cooperation with educational programs and schools
The new arrivals, aged between 15 and 40, are starting their training in eleven professions, such as real estate agent, automotive mechatronics technician, gardener and event technology specialist. One of them is completing a dual study program in business administration. In August 2023, Stadtwerke will now employ a total of 50 trainees. One trainee is starting the new challenge as a young mother, while another joined via the EliB Eltern in Berufsvorbereitung project.
"In addition to working with municipal training programs such as EliB and Joblinge, our participation in the Night of Apprenticeships in March also paid off: We were able to win over three interested parties here," reports Jasmin Noll, Head of Training at Stadtwerke. "We also offered more internships, which helped young people with their career orientation." There was also increased cooperation with comprehensive schools and grammar schools in the city and district of Offenbach: "We are on site at the schools' training fairs and advertise our wide range of professions," adds Noll's deputy Tina Zimmer.
90 percent are taken on after graduation
As an employer, Stadtwerke offers its trainees a number of benefits: it covers all training costs and offers job tickets, helps them find affordable housing and provides discounts with external partners and platforms. The career prospects are also good: in order to meet the demand for skilled workers in a growing city, almost 90 percent of all trainees have been taken on after successfully completing their training in recent years.
In order to show the diverse locations, business areas and activities at Stadtwerke Offenbach, the HR department once again organized introductory days for the new trainees from 15 to 18 August. The program included games to get to know each other, company presentations, a bike tour with e-bikes, guided tours of Stadtservice including the recycling center, a visit to the Stadion am Bieberer Berg and more. Finally, a team event took place in the climbing park with all of the Stadtwerke trainees. The young people got to know each other from different years, exchanged ideas and, in a slightly different way, hung out together.
