Stadtwerke presents another artist's book

28.12.2022 – The Klingspor Museum received a special Christmas present from Stadtwerke Offenbach: the latest artist's book "Quod libet" by Johannes Strugalla is now enriching the library of the renowned museum.

Valuable contribution to the library: Stadtwerke Managing Director Peter Walther (2nd from right) presented the artist's book "Quod libet" by Johannes Strugalla (left) to the Director of the Klingspor Museum, Dr. Dorothee Ader (right). Strugalla's wife Francoişe Despalles, exhibition curator Dr. Stefan Soltek and Barbara Levi-Wach, Chairwoman of the Association of Friends of the Klingspor Museum e. V. (2nd-4th from left) also attended the event.

The process of creating the book could be traced from September 2021 to fall 2022 in the joint exhibition "Die Bilder der Buchkünstler XI - Johannes Strugalla" at Stadtwerke at Senefelderstraße 162: In it, the work has been transformed into a river landscape on the walls. The poems and graphics that were part of the exhibition also literally flowed out of the artist. This has resulted in two unique books - one of which the Stadtwerke has now traditionally acquired for the museum collection.

"The Klingspor Museum's collection now has another highlight from the Despalles edition to offer," said its former director and exhibition curator Dr. Stefan Soltek happily at the handover of the book. His successor Dr. Dorothee Ader also thanked Stadtwerke, which has supported the Museum of Book and Writing Art with €7,500 net per year since 2010. A total of ten copies of "Quod libet" are planned - the picture sections in each are only available once, so that no two works are the same. Strugalla created them using French ink and a bamboo reed pen on handmade paper, which will no longer be produced from 2023. "The artwork also serves as a material archive," emphasized Dorothee Ader.

Stadtwerke Managing Director Peter Walther pointed out that the annual exhibition "The Pictures of the Book Artists" was also on display for the first time in autumn 2022 as part of the "Private Art" series in the company center: 15 to 20 interested people came to each of the four guided tours through Strugalla's walk-in book. The idea came from Barbara Levi-Wach, Chairwoman of the Association of Friends of the Klingspor Museum e.V., and Stadtwerke is planning to take part in "Kunst privat" again in 2023.

The work "Quod libet" by Johannes Strugalla can be seen by appointment in the reading room of the Klingspor Museum during regular opening hours. The museum at Herrnstraße 80 is also showing its international children's book exhibition until February 26, 2023.
