Stadtwerke supports Buchhügel elementary school project

Since the coronavirus-related school closures in mid-March, pupils have no longer been able to study at school or in their classes. The Förderkreis der Grundschule Buchhügel has set itself the task of providing pupils with a variety of learning opportunities at home and has created a digital offering for its pupils. Right on the weekend after the school closed, the Förderkreis set up the new "Weiterlernen" section on its website. In addition to links to teaching material, the Förderkreis also offers hands-on competitions for young users. The offer is also available to other Offenbach pupils.

"The digital learning offer for Offenbach's children has convinced us. Learning at home is also a new challenge for the parents as supporters, and the Förderkreis provides important help here," says Peter Walther, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Offenbach. The children's parents simply use their smartphones to send the Förderkreis pictures of the results of their participation and learning progress. The activities and competitions have a new theme each week and encourage creativity and independent learning.

"The families receive targeted impulses for learning at home. The children practise social skills, fine motor skills and creativity in addition to the subject matter," says Nico Schützhofer. "The children were also able to stay in touch with their friends online, at least a little."

Stadtwerke Offenbach is now helping to finance materials for the children, such as colored pencils, as well as small gifts for the winners of the competitions to motivate the children to learn and participate.
