City of Offenbach

12.4 million passengers used the city buses in 2023

29.04.2024 – Stadtwerke's buses operate nine city bus routes in Offenbach and ensure that people can get to work, school, sports or shopping. After passenger numbers fell in 2020 to 2022 due to the pandemic, they rose to around 12.4 million passengers on city buses in 2023.

Especially within the city, you can hardly get around faster by car than by public transport and it is often not only cheaper, but also much more climate-friendly to use the city buses and leave your own car behind. Almost half of Offenbach's city bus fleet has been electrified since 2021, making it particularly environmentally friendly.

According to data from the Federal Environment Agency, an average car with a combustion engine emits 166 grams of greenhouse gases per passenger kilometer driven, while a diesel bus emits an average of 96 grams per passenger kilometer and e-buses only 72 grams based on the average German electricity mix. The balance for e-buses in Offenbach is even significantly better because the municipal utilities only use green electricity for charging.
