Fresh fruit in the St. Nicholas bags: Donations handed over to Offenbacher Tafel
03.12.2024
For the first time this year, the Offenbach weekly market is adorned with a stately fir tree, donated by the nursery Andreas Göhler from Rodgau Dudenhofen. Mr. Göhler is a long-time market vendor and has known the tree from an early age; his father planted the seedling 30 years ago. Last Tuesday, Martin Wilhelm, Head of Social Affairs and City Treasurer, pressed "on" in a small ceremony on Wilhelmplatz and lit up the fir tree. At the same time, visitors to the market were able to put money in a collection box for the Tafel. This campaign by the city management and the real estate department raised more than 200 euros in a short space of time. The donations were used to buy fruit for the food bank, which was handed over to the food bank yesterday, Tuesday, December 3. The donations were topped up by the market vendors' association, which also provided fruit for the St. Nicholas bags.
Christine Sparr, Managing Director of the Tafel, is delighted with the level of commitment shown by her and the many volunteers, who now have enough fruit to fill the St. Nicholas bags. "There are many parents in Offenbach who can't afford this little Christmas treat," says Wilhelm. "I would like to thank the Tafel team for making children's eyes light up every year. I would also like to thank everyone who helped with their donations and the market vendors who provided additional fruit for the bags."
