Project area
The design of the city center as a green and lively space is a project from the city center future concept. The pedestrian zone in the Berliner Straße, Marktplatz, Geleitsstraße and Kaiserstraße areas is to have more greenery and places to spend time.
The focus is on the sequence of squares from Platz der Deutschen Einheit via Stadthof and Hugenottenplatz to Marktplatz, including the forecourt of the Marktplatz S-Bahn station.
Public participation ended
Where would citizens like to see more greenery, benches, water or play areas? Citizens were able to contribute their wishes and ideas for the design of the pedestrian zone during a city walk and a participation event on November 5, 2025 and via an online survey (October 20 to November 14).
Background
The city center future concept is a strategy adopted by the city council in 2020 with the aim of transforming Offenbach's city center into a liveable center for all citizens. One of these so-called future projects is the development of an open space strip in the city center with exercise areas, family facilities and urban nature.
The aim of the project is to further develop the city center as an attractive place to spend time and a lively meeting place. At the same time, climate adaptation measures are to be implemented and the local microclimate improved through more greenery.
The Office for Planning and Building will develop an integrated overall concept for the project area. This includes specific measures that take into account climatic and design aspects as well as the needs and requirements of people of all age groups.
The process will be accompanied by various participation formats in order to integrate local knowledge and incorporate the wishes and suggestions of citizens into the concept development.
