OFF WORLD - Urban Screenings

Location: Offenbach city center, mobile

Parallel to the large-scale projections in Offenbach's city center, Inaara Mariel and Philomena Hummel moved through the streets of the city and projected moving images onto the walls of buildings using a mobile projector in a bicycle trailer.
Their work Feierabend documents the moment when stores close in Offenbach. Stores are filmed as they close - always at the same time, with the same actions, a routine procedure that is repeated every day.
Closing time unites people - everyone wants to go home and end the working day. The collected video recordings are projected at various locations in Offenbach. Visitors can enjoy an after-work beer, listen to music and watch people going about their daily business - finishing work together or just pretending to.

Inaara Mariel, born in Munich in 2001, has been studying art at the HfG Offenbach since 2020, where she studied "Experimental Spatial Concepts" with Heiner Blum. Last semester, she transferred to the Munich Art Academy, where she is studying in Nicole Wermas' sculpture class.

Philomena Hummel has been studying at the HfG in Offenbach since 2020. She works primarily with the media of photography and film, often focusing on the abstract representation of emotions.

A guided tour with Rebecca Leudesdorff (Project Manager Agentur Mitte) highlighted artistic positions dedicated to the feminist motto Take up space! in urban space.

Introduction by Bernhard Bauser, former media trainer at the media project center Offener Kanal Rhein-Main in Offenbach and head of the media center Main-Kinzig-Kreis, chairman of the board of the Hessian Writers' Association (VS in verdi)

Gerd Vollmer, former director of the Offenbach City Museum, showed his film about Offenbach's old town, which he shot as a young adult a few days before it was demolished in the early 1960s.

Afterwards, Rebecca Leudesdorff was available to answer questions about the current development of Offenbach's city center. The project manager of the Central Agency of the Economic Development Agency has been supporting the implementation of the future concept for the city center since 2023.

Prof. Heiner Blum (HfG & Diamant Offenbach) and Rebecca Leudesdorff (Project Manager Agentur Mitte) led a tour through the city center and the screenings in public space, moving between art and upheavals in Offenbach's city center.

The eternal competition of digital arts started in the children's room. "Backup copies" of well-known games were marked with a signature in the form of a short intro or demo, which developed into an art form in its own right and was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in Germany in 2021. Till and Falk from Digital Retro Park gave an insight into the exciting subculture of the demo scene and showed dystopian-fantastic works, from old and pixelated to new and high-resolution.
