City of Offenbach

Agentur Mitte and Offenbach offensiv e. V. at the Offenbach Christmas market

17.12.2025

On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Central Agency of the City of Offenbach's Economic Development Department and the Offenbach offensiv association were available to answer questions about the city center future concept (ZKI) in the Vereinshütte at the Offenbach Christmas market. The aim was to engage in direct conversation with visitors and to present and discuss the ZKI and current projects.

In a relaxed pre-Christmas atmosphere, numerous interested parties took the opportunity to find out about current initiatives and offers. The on-site presence provided space for open dialog and a wide range of suggestions - from children and young people to families and residents from Offenbach to guests from the surrounding area and international visitors. The discussions ranged from questions about inner city development to specific ideas and feedback from the public.

"The Christmas market is a wonderful place for a low-threshold exchange that shows how committed and diverse Offenbach's urban society is," says Julia Haecker, Project Manager at Agentur Mitte. "The Christmas market shows how much trade, urban society and initiatives work together here. Formats like this strengthen cooperation and make people want to actively shape the city center together," adds Hannah von Guionneau from the Offenbach offensiv e. V. office.

Agentur Mitte, as the central municipal unit for coordinating and implementing the city center future concept, works closely with Offenbach offensiv e. V., which is active as an equal partner and co-designer in many initiatives and projects.

The presence at the Christmas market is part of a series of participation formats that focus on direct encounters, feedback and dialog.

About the actors

Agentur Mitte is part of the City of Offenbach am Main's economic development department. As a central coordination office, it networks municipal institutions, associations, initiatives and private stakeholders, coordinates future projects in the city center and implements its own projects.
Offenbach offensiv e. V. is an association of committed entrepreneurs from the city and district of Offenbach am Main. With the implementation of the 'Masterplan 2030' and the 'City Centre Future Concept', two strong strategies have been visualized. The aim is to strengthen coexistence in Offenbach am Main. Together, Offenbach is proactively promoting the competitiveness of the regional economy. In this way, the city of Offenbach will continue to position itself as an attractive location for companies and investors in the future.

More information on the future concept for the city center

German city centers are undergoing radical change as a result of the shrinking retail sector. Against this backdrop, the city of Offenbach developed a future concept for the city center back in 2020 together with the people of Offenbach, the Offenbach offensiv association, which is close to the Offenbach Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the planners from urbanista - a concept that now comprises 16 projects. The aim, as Lord Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke emphasizes, is to strengthen the remaining retail trade and enable new trade. However, because it will no longer be like it used to be, completely new reasons to come to the city center are also to be created. The 16 projects in the city center future concept are therefore deliberately different offerings in order to maintain the heart of the city as an inviting and lively place. More than half of the projects are already being implemented. The city of Offenbach is working hard to shape change - together with numerous inner-city and external stakeholders. Together, they want to make the city center lovable.
