Mouse fans get a taste of the new Mitte station

For one day, children from the age of six were invited to gain new experiences in one of three workshops and get a taste of the new use of the former department store as the future "Station Mitte". When the city library opens here after the renovation, it will not only be possible to borrow media, but there will also be an opportunity to try out new things under supervision in the so-called Maker Space, to get creative and create things themselves.

150 children with supervisors and younger siblings were supervised, stimulated, taught, encouraged, accompanied, cheered on and entertained in three time slots throughout the day. In the Mouse Maker Space, led by staff and the management of Offenbach City Library, the children had the 3D printer produce mouse key rings, created three-dimensional pictures with 3D pens and designed bags with their names using computer graphics and a plotter machine. In the workshop with the mouse's quacking friend - the well-known yellow duck - they built a drywall in the building with a construction company, architects and structural engineers and learned what is involved in building a house - including planning statics and reading floor plans. Together with employees from Capitol and Stadthalle Offenbach's Stadtwerke Offenbach and the Elmar Theater Club, the children created a play in the workshop with the elephant, which they performed together in front of their parents and ensured that everything was just right, from the lighting effects to the seating.

City Treasurer Martin Wilhelm, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Station Mitte GmbH Offenbach, himself a self-confessed mouse fan since childhood, was delighted with the success of the event during a tour of the individual stations. "It was wonderful that we had a suitable time slot for this great event during the building's renovation phase. The children can already get an insight into what will be possible for them here once we have opened the Mitte station."

In a separate area, those accompanying the children were able to find out more about Station Mitte, while book boxes and games were available for siblings and they could have their faces painted. The German Architecture Museum Frankfurt was there as a partner with the "Lego building site" and even the youngest children built tall dream houses together. In addition, all parents and children were provided with hot and cold drinks as well as delicious muffins and pretzels from the region.

Rebecca Leudesdorff, project manager at Agentur Mitte, was in charge of organizing the Mouse Day from the very first day. Not only was she delighted with the smooth running of the event after intensive preparations, she was also particularly pleased with the enthusiasm of the children and their parents: "The children are totally focused and full of energy to discover what we have to offer. This shows how curious and excited they are about a place like Station Mitte. At the same time, I am grateful for the great commitment of my colleagues, who are all here today and thus bring their own enthusiasm for the future project with them. And this enthusiasm is really infectious!"
