IGMG Mevlana Mosque e.V.
Beschreibung
Cultural food, dialog about Islam
The Mevlana Mosque, one of the older ones in Offenbach, opens from a simple exterior into an impressive place of worship. Founded in 1984 as a small prayer room, the new premises of the Mevlana Mosque in Sandgasse, inaugurated in 1996, can now accommodate up to 500 worshippers.
Artfully decorated tile work with colorful tulip and rose motifs, symbolic of Allah and his prophet Mohammed, dark blue calligraphy of the four caliphs, black wall hangings with quotes from the Koran from the first two suras, as well as an opulent chandelier decorate the very bright and light-flooded mosque. The faithful gather here five times a day and for Friday prayers to listen to the sermons given by the imam in Turkish.
The Mevlana Mosque organizes various courses and events for its parishioners in its own classrooms and outside. For example, tutoring for pupils, German courses for children and parents, orientation courses on topics relating to German society, soccer tournaments and cultural events for women are offered. In addition to a youth club, the mosque has its own restaurant, supermarket and hairdresser, which are also popular with non-members of the community.
