Kanouhou Restaurant

Beschreibung

Oops, a culinary plant is blossoming here! "Kanouhou" can be read in large, curved letters on the stone-grey façade of the turn-of-the-century building. The name is not fantasy, but simply the melodious surname of the young, ambitious chef and owner Abdellatif Kanouhou.

The restaurant with its striking mullioned windows is located diagonally opposite the traditional Beck bakery and adds another cuisine to Offenbach's Nordend district: international crossover. The menu consists of two starters, salads and vegetarian options, four main courses and two desserts and changes weekly. "The chef learned to cook in France," the brisk waitress tells us as we lick the subtly spiced jus off our plates with a piece of bread. Our starter, teriyaki tuna on a celery and mango salad, was a culinary poem.

The monkfish with broccoli foam and grape-cranberry vinaigrette and the braised beef with saffron potato puree went perfectly with our choice of wine - a Pinot Gris from VPD Weingut Bercher from the Kaiserstuhl. How did this wine end up on the small wine list in Offenbach? "A favorite wine of the boss, he also likes to drink the wines on the menu himself," whispers the attentive waitress and we find out: Kanouhou only serves ingredients and drinks from suppliers with whom the chef has been working for a long time. He has been running a successful event catering business for more than four years. This is why the restaurant remains closed at weekends.

The interior of Kanouhou is elegantly simple: dark oak tables with small flower vases and snow-white cloth napkins. On the stone-grey walls, modern photo art by artist friends in bright shades of sunshine from yellow to evening red, with golden-brown color accents at the bar in between. Relaxed clubbing sounds waft from the small wall speakers to our table. At eye level, the young waitress carries two plates of chocolate raviolis into the adjoining conservatory. We also want to try the pasta for sweet tooths, combined with chili mango parfait with red wine berries. To finish, two espressos.

In addition to basics and selected wines, the drinks menu also offers organic soft drinks and bottled beers from various small breweries outside of the large corporations, including the organic beer "Tannenzäpfle". Kanouhou peeks curiously out of the kitchen door. Thumbs up - "we liked it", we signal to him. Yes, and we'll be back. Next time, summer permitting, in the beautiful beer garden, which is also part of the restaurant.
