MALTE SÄNGER

DAEMON - an acronym for a computer tracking program -
casts a glance at the spirits that invisibly embrace, observe
and influence us, as in the myths of ancient Greece. A self-constructed
antenna system reveals the hidden and intercepts
radio signals from permanently orbiting observation satellites.
Extracted from the data noise, the restored images are
juxtaposed with infrared portraits taken with a self-converted
camera. Here the actual biometric measuring grids that modern
phones project onto our faces at the moment of unlocking
the screen can be seen. Three written reconstructions of a
year in the life of a stranger based on chat backups found in
discarded smartphones as well as documentary photographs
of places where data manifests complement the artwork.
