Description
The sensitization of perception, dream narratives, ritual and psychology are themes that Marc Behrens addresses in his art and music. For example, in the radio play "Nachtsprache" (hr2-kultur, 2021) or with the masks of the exhibition and book project "Mask Behrens". His sculptural objects "Traps" are reminiscent of traditional ghost traps and dream catchers or technical devices such as cylindrical bass traps, which are used to avoid low resonance frequencies in recording studios. The "BBAS Trap", a long tube made of aluminum whose segments are vaguely reminiscent of bamboo, vibrates soft bass tones in its cavity. The "BBPS Traps" made of bamboo and iridescent plastic float playfully in space and evoke the bamboo barricades of the democratic protests in Bangkok or Hong Kong. Behrens also uses thorny vines. The hedge of thorns could be described as plant inspiration for barbed wire. It can also be a trap, with skin or clothing quickly getting caught on the thorns. But Behrens' art traps are not about demarcation or obstruction. They are attractive attention-grabbers, strange attractors, and the joy of discovery should get caught up in them. Sculptures from the "Traps" group of works are shown together with photographs from the "New Evidence" series by Peter Voigt.
