City of Offenbach

The "Jewish" or "ghetto house" at Mittelseestraße 34

In Offenbach there were numerous so-called "Jewish houses" with Jewish owners, into which Jewish people or families moved after they had lost their apartment, their company and their house under pressure from the National Socialists.

Description

Until the beginning of 1939, only the owner family Andorn lived at Mittelseestr. 34. They ran their tailor's store on the first floor. After the Reichspogromnacht on November 9, 1938, the Andorns sent their five children to Belgium.

They took in relatives and other Offenbach Jews who had to leave their own homes. The couple Alwine and Isaak Alexander and Sofie Feldmeier lived here, as did Elisabeth Baum, Mrs. Andorn's sister, her husband Richard and the Wolfstein family of three.

The house at Mittelseestr. 31 belonged to the Klauber family. It is not known whether non-Jewish residents also lived here. In addition to the owners, the Jewish couple Schiller lived in the house. Mrs. Irene Abraham moved in in 1937, followed by the widow Anna Engländer in 1939. In August 1941, the Mühlstein couple also moved into the house with their foster daughter Betty Sichel.
