Selma Jeanette Schiff was the daughter of the butcher Samuel Schiff, born in 1867, and his wife Gertrude, née Schönmann, born in 1876. The family had lived in Offenbach since 1909 and at Großer Biergrund 6 since 1918. Their daughter Selma was born on January 6, 1906, the ninth of eleven children of the Jewish couple. Of the 11 siblings, three died at the age of one or two.
Her brother Julius was able to emigrate to New York in 1934 and her sister Alice Regine in 1938. Her brother Theodor emigrated to England in 1939. There is no information about the fate of the other siblings. Samuel Schiff died in December 1941 in the Israeli hospital in Frankfurt, their mother had already died in November 1936.
According to her registration card, Selma Schiff spent the period from October 23, 1928 to October 16, 1929 in New York at the age of 22. She became a mother on November 28, 1933, father unknown, and lived with her daughter at Großer Biergrund 6 until the day of deportation. Both were taken to Treblinka on September 30, 1942, Dorothea was 9 and her mother 36 years old.
The date of death is not known. The registration card states: "25.9.42, to unknown".
