Stumbling stone for Emma Wolf, née Mann, Wilhelm Wolf

Wilhelm Wolf was born in Bürgel on April 15, 1873. His parents were the tinsmith Benjamin Wolf and his wife Rosa, née Kahn. On April 14, 1901, he married Emma Mann, who was born in Fürth on December 1, 1871. In the same year, they both moved to Offenbach and initially lived at Waldstraße 29, where Wilhelm Wolf opened a business on May 1, 1901, as a "cut-out goods dealer, white goods reseller and small-scale haberdashery and fashion goods dealer".

In 1909, the Wolf couple moved their home and business to Waldstraße 5, and in early 1923 to Luisenstraße 86, where their business remained until September 30, 1938. Wilhelm and Emma Wolf had their home in the neighboring building at Luisenstraße 84 since 1932.

They had three children: daughter Alice ("Lisl") was born in 1902, son Richard in 1906 and daughter Margarethe ("Gretl") in 1914.

Wilhelm Wolf had a thriving business with a respectable income until 1933, which allowed his children to attend secondary school. From the boycott of Jewish businesses from April 1933 until November 1938, business success declined more and more. On the night of the pogrom, the Wolf family's home was completely destroyed, Wilhelm Wolf was arrested and, together with many other Offenbach Jews, interned in the Dachau concentration camp from November 16 to 28, 1938. His son and two daughters, Alice, married Silbermann, and Margarethe, married Hirschen, had already left Germany at this time and had already emigrated to the USA with their respective spouses.

Even after his return from Dachau, Wilhelm Wolf and his wife Emma, now aged 65 and 67 respectively, could not decide to leave their hometown of Offenbach and follow their children into exile.

The houses at Luisenstrasse 82-86 were increasingly used to house Jews from 1940 onwards, and Hermann and Johanna Hirschen, daughter Margarethe's parents-in-law, also lived with the Wolfs at Luisenstrasse 84 from September 1941.

Wilhelm and Emma Wolf were deported to Theresienstadt on September 27, 1942. The Offenbach residents' registration file contains the note "unknown, away" under the date October 7, 1942.
Wilhelm and Emma Wolf were unable to withstand the catastrophic conditions in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Wilhelm Wolf died on January 24, his wife Emma four weeks later on February 20, 1943.
