City of Offenbach

22- Jakob Mönch metal and belt factory

Description

The Jakob Mönch metal goods factory is a successor company to the Jacob Mönch and Co. portfolio factory founded in the 1770s, which was one of Offenbach's oldest fine leather manufacturers and also produced metal accessories in the 19th century.
In the second half of the 19th century, the Jakob Mönch company moved to the middle Frankfurter Straße and was a specialist supplier of metal belts to the surrounding portfolio factories.
In 1912, the company had a new production and administration building built on the Luisenstraße site according to plans by architect Wilhelm Herber. Despite its size, its representative stone façade in the late historicist style blended in with the row of older residential buildings. Since the company closed in 1971, the building complex has been used by various tenants.
