Tar factory Lang

Founded in 1914, the Gustav Lang tar factory at Nordring 144 - 148 consisted of a number of different buildings: the boiler house for tar distillation, several warehouses for pitch storage and office buildings. Laboratories and cooling and dewatering facilities were added in the 1920s.

Production ceased in 1929 and the site was used over time as a storage area for various goods. It was not until 2016 that it was decided to carry out a large-scale clean-up of the site, which is around 18,600 m² in size and contaminated with tar oil; the harmful residues from tar production can be found in soil layers up to 2 m deep.
