32 - Gas tower

At the beginning of the 20th century, the city of Offenbach built a modern gasworks in the neighborhood of the new port. This included the tower built in 1904 to cool and wash the raw gas produced by burning coal.

Visible from afar, it was given a pleasing exterior in the historicist style with decorative brickwork. After gas production was shut down in 1928, the tower was divided into storeys and windows were installed in front of the wall openings instead of the wooden slats.

In 1995, Energieversorgung Offenbach AG restored it to its original form with slate roofing and a copper spire, making it one of the last remaining old structures and using it for exhibitions and as a venue for events. The gas tower also offers a wide view over the harbor, Nordend and Offenbach's new Kaiserlei district.

The hall, which was built in the 1950s as the company's own metalworking shop, has been used for events of all kinds since 2013.
