27- Smoking tobacco manufactory Krafft

The business and residential building of the smoking tobacco manufacturer Geelvinck, Amerongen and Co., founded in 1791, is the last architectural reminder of this traditional company after the destruction of the factory wings in the courtyard during the war. Shortly after its foundation, the company was taken over by the partner Philipp Casimir Krafft, who became the founding president of the Offenbach Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1821.
Since its restoration and conversion into apartments, the appearance of the early classicist building has returned to its 19th century state, although the door wings of the side courtyard gates are missing. The noble façade design with its slightly emphasized central axis shows the important and profitable role that tobacco processing played in the economic structure of the Rhine-Main region until the early 20th century. The company produced 80,000 pounds of smoking tobacco annually on the imposing premises.
