City of Offenbach

44 - Industriebahnweg

Beschreibung

The almost 75-year history of the industrial railroad in Offenbach am Main came to an end with the discontinuation of rail operations in 1993. The approximately four kilometer long line between Ostbahnhof and Sprendlinger Landstraße with its various branches had previously connected a total of 18 companies with the Frankfurt - Bebra mainline. There was also a connection with the harbor railroad. The production range of the neighboring companies reflected Offenbach's industrial tradition. This applies in particular to the Hartmann, Friedrich Schmaltz, Stahlbau-Lavis, MSO, Mayer & Schmidt, Portland-Zementfabrik and Hammonia-Stearinfabrik machine factories. The abattoir also had its own siding. A number of exhibits from the railroad era can still be seen along the route, such as a wagon, a signal, a trolley and various points.
