Beschreibung

Today, the site is the headquarters of Städtische Holding SOH

MSO achieved a leading position worldwide with precision grinding machines. Grinding wheels also became a sought-after product after the company succeeded in replacing natural emery with artificial emery. The manufacture of cylinder liners reached large-scale production. In 1904, MSO opened a branch plant in Rheinfelden, Baden.

Nothing remains of the large buildings of the companies Mayer & Schmidt, Schleifmaschinen & Schmirgel-Werke AG / MSO and Friedrich Schmaltz / F.S.O., both of which moved to the southern Waldstrasse at the end of the 19th century, following the structural change in Offenbach's mechanical engineering industry in the years after 1970.

The only structural evidence is the multi-storey residential building (house no. 201), which today stands isolated on Waldstraße: built in 1906, half of it belonged to the Friedrich Schmaltz company, which rented it out to employees. On the first floor of the other half was the pub "Zur neuen Starkenburg", also known as "Die Wiederroder" after the owner, a popular meeting place for workers from the surrounding factories.
