A "trolley" is a lifting and transportation device. It is used in production facilities where heavy loads need to be transported from above to a specific location with pinpoint accuracy.
The crane in bridge construction runs on two elevated crane runways. The "trolley" on the bridge structure, which moves at right angles to the crane runway, is equipped with a cable winch for lifting the loads. The load itself is attached to a load-bearing device, usually a pulley block. Such a pulley block consists of a pulley attached to a rope and a rope. If the pulley is loosely attached to the rope, the load only moves half the distance of the pulled rope. By halving the force path, the load can in this case be twice as great as the tensile force. By stringing several pulleys together, this principle enables even enormous loads to be lifted.
In the steel industry, these lifting systems are driven by electric motors.
