Weather Park Visitor Center
Overview
Visible from afar, the zinc-clad building gleams in the sun. The visitor center, designed by MEIXNER SCHLÜTER WENDT Architekten, is reminiscent of a research station.
On 87 square meters of interior space, visitors can obtain information at the reception desk, get tickets to the RegionalPark or buy drinks.
A child-friendly exhibition in the visitor center supplements and deepens this meteorological knowledge and also provides information about the regional climate and the RegionalPark. Above all, however, the exhibition with its many interactive stations offers exciting and entertaining insights into the phenomena in the sky, regardless of adverse weather conditions.
Young visitors are not the only ones who enjoy setting off a tornado in a column of water, making their own personal rainbow glow, creating virtual landscapes, imitating wind speeds with a hairdryer or creating weather moods such as storms or thunderstorms visually and with soundscapes.
Many groups of schoolchildren and senior citizens chose the new center of the weather park as their destination as soon as it opened. A "green classroom" with ascending benches is available for them at the rear of the building. Lectures and seminars can also be held outdoors on these steps.
The visitor center was opened in 2014 and can be visited free of charge.
