Concept youth welfare at school

The "Youth support at school" concept of the Children and Youth Work Department of the Offenbach Youth Welfare Office focuses on young people with precarious school biographies who no longer actively participate in the teaching and learning processes at school and are therefore at risk of failing at school and losing access to the education system.

The reasons for this are manifold, which is why intensive individual case and relationship work with selected pupils in years 5 to 10 who have more than 20 days of absence in a school semester as well as targeted and systematic support are the focus of "Jugendhilfe an Schule".

In addition to close cooperation with the schools, the young people's extracurricular environment - family, peers, leisure activities , etc. - is also included in the support work. It is fundamental to the self-image of "Jugendhilfe an Schule" that the young people work together voluntarily with the youth welfare staff and that they are actively involved as co-constructors in the conception and implementation of support planning.

In close cooperation with schools, "Jugendhilfe an Schule" aims to provide young people with targeted support and assistance in order to give them options for a successful educational biography and thus social and professional participation. Absenteeism, but also passive forms of truancy and dropping out of school are to be reduced - the number of young people who leave school without a secondary school leaving certificate is to be reduced and the number of young people who successfully enter training and employment is to increase.
