Overview

The Office for the Environment and Climate is involved in urban planning and private projects with an environmental impact, where it brings in the concerns of the various subject areas, advises citizens on environmental and climate issues and takes its own measures to promote a healthy environment in Offenbach that is worth living in, in order to protect natural resources and promote quality of life.

Our tasks include

  • Nature and landscape conservation
  • species protection
  • Water and flood protection
  • Contaminated site and soil protection
  • Climate protection and climate adaptation
  • Air pollution control and noise protection
  • Mobility management in daycare centers and schools, city cycling
  • Environmental education programs

In addition to preserving green spaces in the city and promoting biodiversity, we pursue the goals of sustainable soil management and water-sensitive urban development. In doing so, we also ensure compliance with the city's green protection statutes and rainwater regulations. In addition, we are working on achieving the climate protection and climate adaptation goals from the City of Offenbach's Climate Concept 2035 and implementing the corresponding measures together with other municipal stakeholders.

Our office also oversees the environmental committees Environmental Commission and Nature Conservation Advisory Board. Citizens, schools, daycare centers and other institutions can actively participate in environmental and climate protection through participatory offers.
