Dental screening - examination of the oral cavity/assessment of dental status - in schools
The municipal health department regularly carries out dental examinations in schools for the early detection of tooth decay and malpositioned teeth and jaws. This examination is prescribed for schools by §11 of the Hessian Public Health Service Act (HGöGD) and §21 SGB V (5th Social Security Code), as an essential part of dental group prophylaxis and the regulation on school health care.
Overview
The children are informed about the findings and any necessary treatment measures and are made aware of any weaknesses in their oral hygiene.
The parents receive a written report of the examination findings and any necessary advice, treatment or prophylactic measures.
This examination is not intended to replace the six-monthly examination at the dental practice.
If the follow-up examination reveals that important dental treatment has not been carried out, contact with the parents or guardians will be intensified. If the child's welfare is at risk, the support of the youth welfare office will be requested.
