Measles is an infectious disease caused by viruses and is highly contagious.
For this reason, measles vaccination has been mandatory since 01.03.2020.
Persons born after 31.12.1970 must have sufficient vaccination protection against measles or immunity against measles if they are cared for in a community facility or are employed in a community and/or healthcare facility.
Overview
The following facilities are covered by measles protection?
- Community facilities according to §33 No. 1-4 and §36 No. 4 IfSG
(e.g. schools, day care centers, child day care, refugee shelters) - Healthcare facilities according to §23 (3) IfSG
(e.g. hospitals, rehabilitation and day clinics, medical and dental practices, practices of other human medical professions, emergency services)
Who needs adequate measles protection?
- People who are or will be cared for in communal facilities
- Persons who are or will be working in community facilities
- Persons who are or will be working in healthcare facilities
Excluded are:
- Persons born before 01.01.1971
- Persons with medical contraindications to measles vaccination. A medical certificate is required.
- Children under the age of one do not require a certificate; from the age of two, two vaccinations or proof of sufficient immunity are required.
